Location

The Grand Hotel Majestic stands proudly
on a promontory that juts out spectacularly into Lake Maggiore, affording it sweeping views of the mountains, the Borromee Islands and the lake itself. Immersed in the tranquility of a flower-scented, perfectly groomed English-style garden, the hotel boasts a private waterfront with its own jetty and small, lovely beach which is only a stone’s throw from the tiny, picturesque Island of San Giovanni, favourite haunt
of the conductor Arturo Toscanini and one of the summer residences of the noble Borromeo family.
The hotel is located on the elegant west shores of the lake where as early as 1800 it was fashionable for wealthy nobles from Milan and the surrounding areas to build imposing villas, one more lavish than the other.

Arriving from Milan

It is extremely easy to reach Lake Maggiore and the
Grand Hotel Majestic! In fact, Malpensa International Airport is only 45 short minutes away!
If you are arriving from Milan, take Highway A8
direction Varese-Laghi. Follow the signs for Varese until you reach the point (near Gallarate & Malpensa Airport)
where the highway divides into two directions: Varese on
the right and Gravellona-Toce straight ahead: you must follow the signs for Gravellona-Toce.
You will then automatically fall onto highway A26.
Exit at Baveno and follow the signs for Verbania. You will reach a large round-about where you must turn right. Follow the signs for Verbania-Intra-Villa Taranto and keep going straight until the lake is actually in front of you.
Turn right and you will pass in front of the famous botanical gardens of Villa Taranto. Proceed along the lakeshore for about one kilometer until you see the hotel on the left side of the road.

Attractions

VILLA TARANTO

In 1931 a Scotsman, Neil Boyd McEacharn dreamed to create one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world. He succeeded admirably and today thousands of different species of plants imported from every corner
of the globe are artfully displayed against
an equally striking backdrop of the lake
and surrounding mountains.

ISOLA MADRE

The very first botanical gardens to be designed on Lake Maggiore – of incredible beauty, they harbour many species of plants and flowering trees, not to mention exotic birds. An explosion of colour and fragrance unique of its kind.
The imposing Borromeo Palace built in 1590 contains precious furnishings and a permanent exhibition of antique puppet theatres.

ISOLA BELLA

Home of the beautiful baroque 17th century
palace belonging to the Borromeo family.
Contains lovely furnishings and some
famous paintings. One can visit
the grottoes which are curiously decorated
with shells and stones. The gardens boasting
many rare plants are built to resemble
decks on a ship and are spectacular.
The Island was named after Prince
Carlo lll Borromeo’s wife, Isabella d’Adda.

ISOLA PESCATORI

Once home to fisherman only,
this lovely little medieval island
is the ideal place to relax,
take in the magnificent views,
get away from it all and savour some
delectable fresh local fish.

CANNERO RIVIERA

Known for its very mild climate,
this town boasts a Mediterranean-style vegetation:
olive trees, cedars, lemon trees and lovely mimosas
to name a few.
It is also home to the Italian Society of Camelias.
This beautiful flower has almost become an institution
on the Lake.

STRESA

Dating back to medieval times, Strixia, as it was then called, became one of Europe’s most prestigious resorts in the second half of the 19th century and the aristocrats built their lavish villas along the lakeside .
This Pearl of the Lake is now a famous centre for conventions and offers splendid views
of the Borromee Islands. Home to the very popular Musical Weeks from July to September. Two 18th century villas of interest are Villa Sant’Ambrogio and the Villa Ducale.
